Accenture, Cognizant & Atos rise in Lighthouse’s Outsourcing Index

Lighthouse Outsourcing Index - May 2009The most high profile gainer in this edition of the Lighthouse Outsourcing Index is Accenture which has moved up 2 positions and is now ranked 3rd. Considered to be one of the top vendor for application outsourcing the firm has also come under the spotlight as analysts try to determine the impact of recession on its financial results.

Atos Origin is up 5 positions and is the biggest gainer in this bi-monthly edition of the Outsourcing Index. It has signed a contract with KAS Bank to handle mainframe services and is now ranked 15th. Cognizant is also up 3 positions and is ranked 11th. It seems that the Lighthouse Outsourcing Index is not the only list that Cognizant is climbing well. It has moved up 143 places in the Fortune 1000 list and has been ranked 51 on the BusinessWeek InfoTech 100 for 2009.

Satyam and BT Global are the top losers as both firms have dropped 7 positions. BT Global Services has become a major loss making unit for BT and is now ranked 22 in the Outsourcing Index. The drop in Satyam’s ranking is understandably due to the decline in analyst interest after the firm’s acquisition by Tech Mahindra.

Bankruptcy news helps BearingPoint move up in the Lighthouse Outsourcing Index

Lighthouse Outsourcing Index - March 2009The top gainer this month in the Lighthouse Outsourcing Index is BearingPoint which has gone up 5 positions. Mentions about the firm in analyst reports have shot up due to news of the firm filing for Chapter 11 protection in US. It would be interesting to see how the firm restructures its operations to ensure least possible disruption to its existing clients and develop new services offerings. Fujitsu Services which has launched a new business analytics service aimed at retailers has also moved up 3 positions and is now ranked 4th.

Atos Origin has shown the biggest decline this month and has dropped down 4 positions to be ranked 20th. Indian outsourcing providers improve their rankings in 2008

Lighthouse Outsourcing Index - 2008-2009The Lighthouse Outsourcing Index was launched in July 2008 and this month we will be tracking the changes that have occurred in the rankings of the firms since then. The star performers in this half year appear to be the Indian outsourcing giants. Infosys which was recognized at the Six Sigma Global Summit and the Asia Business Continuity Awards has moved up 5 positions and is now ranked 5th.

The biggest gainer has been HCL which has improved its ranking by interacting with analysts at its Global Meet. The firm was the biggest gainer in August as well when it announced its acquisition of Liberata. Satyam has also improved its ranking in the 6 months since the Index was launched and has gone up 5 positions. The firm is a hot topic due to the massive financial scandal uncovered in early January and its sad how quickly a firm which was reputed for its “intrapreneurship” initiative is in all sorts of trouble to save its existence in its present form.

The biggest drop in the past 6 months has been in the ranking of BT Global Services. The firm was the biggest loser in November edition of the Outsourcing Index and has not bounced back to reclaim the number 3 spot it held in September 2008. T-Systems has also dropped down 4 positions since July and is now ranked 17th.

Accenture replaces BT Global to take the third spot in the Lighthouse Outsourcing Index

Lighthouse Outsourcing Index - November 2008Accenture is the star of this month’s Lighthouse Outsourcing Index. The firm has been been named the second-most-admired company in contract management by the International Association for Contract & Commercial Management (IACCM) and focus on its UK business by IDC has helped it to gain 11% analyst focus and move up 2 positions. The firm is now ranked at the 3rd spot this month. Siemens IT Solutions and Services has also done well in this edition of the Outsourcing Index. The firm has improved its score by 79% and has moved up 4 spots. It has also announced that its North American Global Production Centers have achieved a triple crown of ISO certification and appears well positioned to move up in the coming months. Satyam has also improved its position this month as analyst focus on its growth in Europe. The firm is up 3 positions and is ranked 14th this month.

BT Global Services is the biggest loser this month. The firm has dropped 8 positions and has lost 51% of its score compared to September 2008. BT has admitted that the profitability of its Global Services business unit, which was once considered BT’s engine of growth, are not up to scratch. Hopefully the appointment of a new CEO will bring back its focus and profitability.

BT Global Services moves to the 3rd spot in Lighthouse Outsourcing Index

Lighthouse Outsourcing Index - September 2008The biggest gainers this month are BT Global and Convergys with gains of 3 positions each. The glory is more for BT Global as it has claimed the 3rd spot by displacing EDS. The firm has successfully completed its acquisition of the IT services specialist Stemmer and has announced an enhancement in its security monitoring service to protect large enterprise networks. Convergys is the surprise gainer this month. The firm has shown a decline in our regular services index but is the surprise gainer in the outsourcing index. This difference indicates a gain of analyst interest on the outsourcing aspect of the firm while reducing their overall focus on the firm. It incidentally also highlights why Lighthouse has decided to analyse the outsourcing and system integration aspects of IT services market as separate indexes.

Unisys has dropped down 2 positions this month and is now ranked 14th. The firm has announced a number of new outsourcing contracts and has also been nominated the Official IT Services Provider to 2008 Republican National Convention. However, these have failed to help it gain analyst interest this month. BearingPoint which has announced a return to profitability after about 3 years has also lost 2 positions and is now ranked 23rd.
